Competent Private Instruction: CPI Option 1
Under Option 1 a parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian simply completes the report of Competent Private Instruction (Form A-available from district of residence) and returns it to the resident district by September 1 or within 14 days of commencing CPI. (Iowa Code section 299A.2)
Home School Assistance Program: The Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency is pleased to provide Home School Assistance Program (HSAP) services for the Bettendorf, Calamus-Wheatland, Central DeWitt Community, Delwood, Maquoketa, North Scott, Northeast, Pleasant Valley, and Wilton Community School Districts.
The Home School Assistance Program (HSAP) offers assistance to parents/guardians who choose to teach their children at home. Parents/guardians are directly responsible for planning curriculum and teaching their children. They are free to incorporate their own values and philosophy of education. The HSAP can help families by offering curriculum materials & resources, AEA Media Center resources & online services, support & guidance from licensed supervising teachers, plus much more.

Supervising Teacher Assistance: Families enrolling in the HSAP will work with supervising teachers Denise Tatoian and Sara Lindner who will provide assistance along with required visits as stated by the Iowa Department of Education.
Enrichment Classes/Educational Outings/Activities: Students in grades K-12 will have the opportunity to participate in optional group activities, educational outings, technology sessions, enrichment classes, plus special events.
HSAP Lending Library: Located in the Student Programs office of the AEA, the HSAP Lending Library is home to numerous books, reference materials, and equipment to support home education. Materials are available for checkout if enrolled in the HSAP.
Dual Enrollment: Students may be dual enrolled for academics, extra-curricular activities, and special education, and participate in the HSAP.
There is no charge for participating in the Home School Assistance Program. Enrollment must take place before September 1st of the current school year.
